There is no denying how stylish the 2019 Mazda CX-5 is. Inside and out, this crossover SUV epitomizes sophistication and luxury. The 2019 model is also the first one to feature a turbocharged engine option, but we’ll explain that more below. For now, we want to see how the 2019 Mazda CX-5 compares to one of its competitors.
We have selected the 2019 Subaru Outback to go up against the 2019 Mazda CX-5. These crossovers are similarly styled and sized so we thought this would make for a great matchup. To be as fair as possible, we are comparing the base models of each vehicle in our chart below.
We teased the new turbo engine above, and now we’ll explain. The top two trim levels, the Grand Touring Reserve and the Signature, come with a standard 250-horsepower, SKYACTIV®-G 2.5-liter inline four-cylinder engine with Dynamic Pressure Turbo. This same engine was added to the 2018 Mazda6 and it has been wildly popular. Drivers of the Mazda CX-9 have also been able to enjoy this turbocharged engine, and now the Mazda CX-5 has the same capabilities. Lower trims of the Mazda CX-5 still have an impressive engine, too. If horsepower isn’t a huge deal to you, the Sport, Touring, and Grand Touring all come with a 187-horsepower, SKYACTIV®-G 2.5-liter DOHC 16-valve inline four-cylinder engine with Cylinder Deactivation. All trims come standard with a SKYACTIV®-Drive six-speed automatic transmission and are available with i-ACTIV AWD®.
