With exciting new crossover options on the market nearly every month, it can be hard to keep up when it comes to purchasing a new vehicle. This is especially true when you’re looking for the right vehicle that combines vehicle performance with overall utility and comfort. But at Tuttle Click Mazda in the Irvine area, the 2020 Mazda CX-9 may be a great option.
While fitting inside the midsize crossover category, the CX-9 has power, handling and the excitability of a smaller performance car while still having space for 6-7 total passengers. But when sizing up against the 2020 Volkswagen Atlas – one with strong name presence and base turbo engine – does the 2020 Mazda CX-9 hold up? Check out what we found below:
2020 Mazda CX-9 |
Versus |
2020 Volkswagen Atlas |
---|---|---|
2.5L 4-Cylinder Turbo 6A | Engine | 2.0L 4-Cylinder Turbo 8A |
227 | Horsepower | 235 |
310 ft-lbs | Torque | 258 ft-lbs |
22 City / 28 Highway MPG | Fuel Economy | 20 City / 24 Highway |
Looking at the base engines between the two, the 2020 Mazda CX-9 ranks as a solid option when it comes to midsize crossovers. With its base 227 horsepower, it slightly lags behind the 2020 Volkswagen Atlas. However, when using premium unleaded fuel, both the horsepower (250) and torque (320) slot higher than the Atlas model’s base engine. Also, throw in the combined 24 MPG and the engine in the CX-9 outmaneuvers its competition.
On top of the base engine, the 2020 Mazda CX-9 provides several added options at the base trim that the 2020 Volkswagen Atlas does not. For starters, CX-9 models receive two major standard features: adaptive cruise control and heated front seats. In order to have both these inside a VW Atlas, you would have to spend an additional $5,500 on top of the base MSRP. Additionally, a larger spike comes from navigation capabilities, as the base trim of the CX-9 comes with MAZDA CONNECT™ Infotainment System, which includes navigation. To receive a similar upgrade, you would need to purchase the highest trim of VW Atlas – around $9,250 more than the base trim.
In viewing what each model has to offer, the 2020 Mazda CX-9 is a strong option for its performance, standard features, and on your wallet. Come and see one for yourself down at Tuttle-Click Mazda; our employees would love to help you out.
